Critical Stages of Inspection

  • Before Any Concrete Is Poured
    • Underground Plumbing
    • Underground Electrical
    • Rebar for Foundations
  • Pre Drywall
    • Inspection of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical are performed at this stage
  • Framing
    • Inspection of the framing members for spacing and size, ties and clips, headers, lintels
  • Final Inspection

The Inspector verifies that construction meets the City of Stafford adopted construction codes and City Ordinances. The primary objective of inspections is to assure all buildings are safe to occupy. Permits are not finalized until all required inspections have been conducted and the construction is approved. Building Permits are valid for up to 180 days. Building Permits will expire if work does not commence within 6 months of permit issuance or stops for longer than six months. Inspections must be requested at each stage of construction. 

Certificate of Occupancy

When all final inspections have passed a certificate of occupancy may be issued.

How to Check the Results of an Inspection

When an inspection is passed a notification will be left on the job by either a green tag or a signature on the job card. If an inspection fails, the customer/contractor will be notified with a red tag listing the deficient items and work required to resolve the issue(s). After resolving the issue(s) the customer/contractor must pay a re-inspection fee before calling for a re-inspection.

Customers and Contractors must leave the following:

  • Permit Number
  • Site Address
  • Type of Inspection
  • Date of Inspection Requested, Indicating AM or PM
  • Name of Contact
  • Contact Phone

Inspection requests received before 7 am will be scheduled for the same business day.
